About this role

The barista serves as the master craftsman of all beverage and food items offered by PJ’s Coffee. They develop a positive environment for customers and fellow staff members while providing fast, efficient, and friendly service. This role upholds the reputation and integrity of the PJ’s brand at their specific store.

Baristas proactively suggest new beverages, drink enhancements, snacks, and pastries to enhance customer experience and knowledge. They prepare all beverages and food to meet PJ’s Coffee specifications and ensure customer satisfaction. Excellent customer service extends to staff operations and store upkeep.

In a fast-paced team environment, baristas follow cash handling procedures accurately and maintain sanitary, safety, and aesthetic standards using daily checklists. They alert management to operational needs, equipment issues, and improvements. All team members enforce company policies, procedures, and safety rules.

PJ’s Coffee, founded in 1978, uses top 1% Arabica beans and offers unique items like Original Cold Brew Ice Coffee. Employees receive training to grow within the company, with intent to advance into larger roles. Ongoing management and leadership opportunities support career development.

Requirements

  • Barista experience preferred but not required; training provided in PJ’s methods

Responsibilities

  • Present a positive image of PJ's to customers and coworkers
  • Proactively suggest new beverages, drink enhancements, snacks, and pastries to improve customer experience
  • Prepare all beverages and food to meet PJ’s Coffee specifications and customer satisfaction
  • Ensure the store offers excellent customer service through staff operations and physical upkeep
  • Follow cash handling procedures accurately
  • Maintain interior and exterior sanitary, safety, and aesthetic requirements using daily checklists and par levels
  • Alert management to operational needs, equipment failure, and necessary improvements
  • Attend training sessions to increase coffee knowledge and apply skills to operations
