About this role

As a Coffee Shop Barista at Hy-Vee, you will review and fill customer orders for the day, handle food in a safe manner, and ensure the work area is always clean and neat. You will provide courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service to customers and team members, upholding a positive company image. This role supports the promise of 'a helpful smile in every aisle' from an engaged workforce.

Day-to-day tasks include providing prompt service by smiling, greeting customers, learning their names, and assisting with products like escorting to items or loading heavy loads. You will take orders at the counter or over the phone, review food freshness, anticipate department needs, prepare and replenish products, check in deliveries, and run registers. Maintaining cleanliness, removing trash, and adhering to hygiene guidelines are essential.

You will work with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment. The role reports to the District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers, Food Service Director, and Coffee Shop Department Manager, with no positions reporting to you. Team interactions emphasize caring, concern, and patience in all customer encounters.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Provide prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience
  • Smile and greet customers in a friendly manner and make an effort to learn customers’ names
  • Assist customers by escorting them to products, securing out-of-reach items, and loading heavy items
  • Take customer orders at the counter and answer the telephone promptly
  • Handle food in a safe manner and ensure the work area is always clean and neat
  • Review the status and appearance of food for freshness and ensure adequate food supply
  • Prepare and replenish product as necessary and anticipate product needs daily
  • Run the department registers, receive payment, and make change
