About this role

Located in downtown Houston, the Magnolia Hotel seeks a Barista for its Food and Beverage team. This position involves preparing coffee and espresso drinks while ensuring outstanding guest service. The ideal candidate enjoys interacting with guests in a welcoming environment.

Prepare and serve coffee, espresso-based beverages, and specialty drinks following established recipes. Greet guests and provide friendly service while practicing suggestive selling techniques. Enter orders into the point-of-sale system and handle payments for cash, room charges, and credit cards accurately.

Maintain cleanliness and organization of coffee machines, counters, service areas, and storage throughout each shift. Stock and replenish coffee beans, syrups, milk, cups, and grab-and-go items as needed. Follow Hotel food safety, sanitation, and health department standards when handling food and beverages.

Work cooperatively with other departments and team members to ensure efficient hotel operations. Anticipate guest needs and resolve concerns professionally and promptly. Report any injury, accident, or unsafe condition immediately to management while completing side duties.

Requirements

  • Previous barista, coffee shop, marketplace, or food & beverage experience preferred.
  • Experience with computerized point-of-sale systems and cash handling.
  • Knowledge of espresso machines, coffee preparation, and beverage presentation preferred.
  • Ability to follow Hotel food and beverage policies regarding sanitation, food handling, storage, and side work.
  • Willingness to interact with guests in a friendly, welcoming, and professional manner throughout the shift.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve high quality coffee, espresso-based beverages, teas, and specialty drinks according to established recipes and presentation standards.
  • Greet guests promptly and provide friendly, personalized service throughout the guest experience.
  • Practice suggestive selling techniques for beverages, pastries, snacks, and marketplace items.
  • Correctly enter guest orders into the point-of-sale system, including proper payment handling procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of coffee machines, counters, service areas, marketplace displays, and storage areas.
  • Stock and replenish coffee beans, syrups, milk, cups, lids, grab-and-go items, and other supplies as needed.
  • Follow all Hotel food safety, sanitation, and health department standards when preparing and handling food and beverages.
  • Complete opening and closing side duties, including cleaning equipment, restocking supplies, and securing work areas.
