About this role

We are looking for experienced Head Baristas to lead our team in the Fitzroy venue. The right person will be passionate, technically skilled, and have a strong work ethic, with the ability to lead a barista team to deliver the ultimate customer experience. You’ll ensure the quality and service of coffee is consistently to Industry Beans’ high standards.

This role involves developing, training, and managing a team of baristas while managing the coffee program, including liaising with the roastery, implementing recipes, and maintaining service standards. You’ll lead daily operations during shifts, organize breaks, approve timesheets, and oversee machine and grinder maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration. Quality control through sensory evaluation and cup tasting will identify extraction faults to protect coffee quality.

Requirements

  • Customer-focused approach to specialty coffee
  • Minimum of four years’ experience as a head barista in specialty coffee
  • Strong experience developing and managing a team to deliver high-quality, consistent coffee
  • Expertise across multiple machines, brew methods, and extraction profiling
  • Excellent latte art skills with the ability to train others
  • Troubleshooting, problem-solving, and equipment maintenance skills
  • Ability to maintain quality and speed during high-volume service periods
  • Confident front-of-house presence, complaint resolution skills, and brand representation

Responsibilities

  • Develop, train, and manage a team of baristas
  • Manage the coffee program including liaising with the roastery, implementing recipes, and maintaining service standards
  • Lead daily operations during shifts including organizing breaks and approving timesheets
  • Maintain technical standards for espresso extraction and milk steaming to ensure consistent, high-quality coffee
  • Oversee machine and grinder maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration to protect equipment and coffee quality
  • Conduct quality control through sensory evaluation and cup tasting to identify extraction faults
  • Manage retail offerings and ensure visual merchandising is maintained at a high standard
  • Deliver an outstanding hospitality experience through barista craftsmanship and customer engagement
