About this role

We're excited to announce an opportunity to join our coffee team as a Production Roaster. This is an on-site position based at our Roasting Plant in Oakland, CA. The shift runs Monday through Friday from 6:00am to 2:30pm.

You'll operate green bean receiving, loading, and staging systems while learning to run the drum roaster and ancillary equipment like the Afterburner, Silo, and Conveyance systems under supervision. Perform preventive maintenance, daily cleaning following GMPs, and participate in quality control programs including coffee cupping and tasting.

Ensure compliance with HACCP, Cal/OSHA, FSMA, food safety, and worker safety regulations. Report maintenance issues, operate forklifts, handle accurate data entry in MPE, Cropster, Excel, and support SQF audit preparation. Contribute to continuous improvement and 5S projects.

Work in a positive atmosphere by communicating professionally with customers, suppliers, and co-workers. Gain hands-on experience in the craft of coffee roasting with passion and attention to detail. Flexible schedule supports dynamic production demands.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years experience working in a coffee roasting facility or related industry preferred
  • Passion for coffee and the desire to learn the craft of coffee roasting
  • Understanding of basic mechanical principles with ability to read equipment technical manuals and diagrams
  • Flexible to schedule changes to meet demands of growing production schedule
  • Basic math skills for production planning and inventory management
  • Strong attention to detail for repetitive tasks and accuracy in quantities
  • Strong command of the English language in verbal, written, and reading comprehension
  • ServSafe Food Handler and Forklift Experience a plus

Responsibilities

  • Operate green bean receiving, loading, and staging systems in support of the production roasting team
  • Learn and operate drum roaster and ancillary equipment under supervision
  • Perform preventive maintenance and cleaning tasks for all roasting related equipment
  • Conduct daily documented cleaning of roasting machinery and work area following GMP’s
  • Participate in Quality Control programs, coffee cupping, tasting, and quality control lab activities
  • Operate forklifts to move equipment and supplies
  • Ensure compliance with HACCP, Cal/OSHA, FSMA and all food and worker safety processes
  • Support department efforts to prepare for SQF Audit and SQF certification
