About this role

This role is responsible for the daily operations and overall appearance of the coffee bar and related areas within a healthcare setting. You will maintain a sanitary and organized environment while practicing and abiding by food codes and applicable regulatory requirements.

Day-to-day duties include operating cappuccino and espresso machines, coffee grinders, brewers, and blenders to prepare hot and cold beverages. You will also handle cash register operations, money handling, and hot and cold food production for retail sales.

You will work as part of a dedicated team committed to the mission and core values of Mercy Medical Center. The environment emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and compliance with federal, state, local, and accreditation agency standards.

This position offers the opportunity to develop barista skills with required training provided within the first two months. It is a part-time role with a rotating shift schedule, ideal for those seeking flexibility in a professional food service environment.

Requirements

  • Must be able to pass barista training within 2 months of hire
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Knowledge of several subjects to prepare reports, perform calculations, and deal effectively with other people
  • Ability to read and write
  • Restaurant or food service operations experience preferred
  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training for child and dependent adult

Responsibilities

  • Operate related equipment including cappuccino machine, coffee grinder, coffee brewers, and blender
  • Perform opening and closing duties for the coffee bar
  • Demonstrate cash register operation and money handling procedures
  • Prepare hot and cold food for retail sales and set up café displays with stocked food and paper products
  • Check and document food temperatures throughout shift, notifying supervisor of any out-of-compliance items
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work area, including coffee serving and seating areas, equipment, storage, counter tops, and utensils
  • Requisition, transport, and replenish foods and supplies to maintain café inventory
  • Make coffee, juice, and smoothies; replenish and clean beverage-dispensing machines and areas
