About this role

As a Barista at SpartanNash, you will be part of a food solutions company that delivers the ingredients for a better life. This role is responsible for preparing coffee shop beverages and food while operating the cash register and receiving payment in a timely and efficient manner.

Your day-to-day will involve brewing, mixing, and blending beverages according to set standards, preparing food items, and ensuring all products are handled safely. You will also stock items, rotate merchandise displays, and maintain a clean and well-stocked department.

You will work alongside a team of braggingly happy members who create braggingly happy customers, from bakery managers to order selectors. The environment is customer-focused, with an emphasis on high standards of service and safety.

This role offers the opportunity to grow within a company that spans national accounts, independent grocers, e-commerce retailers, and U.S. military commissaries. You will gain valuable experience in coffee preparation, customer service, and retail operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • One year of retail or related experience preferred
  • Good verbal communication skills; ability to interact politely and effectively with customers
  • Good customer service and organizational skills; detail-oriented
  • Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time and may bend, stoop, or twist

Responsibilities

  • Prepare coffee shop beverages; brew, mix and/or blend beverages according to set standards
  • Prepare food items according to procedures
  • Operate cash register to itemize customer purchases and process payments including cash, checks, credit cards, gift certificates, and coupons
  • Stock items and rotate coffee items and merchandise displays
  • Maintain a clean and well-stocked department; ensure compliance with Company safety and sanitation procedures
  • Communicate Company programs, in-store specials, and coupons to customers
  • Follow all PPE and Safety Guidelines, Food Safety and Cleaning Expectations, and Guest Experience Guidelines
  • Notify the department lead or manager if products and supplies need to be ordered
