About this role

The Whistling Kettle, a premier tea-forward restaurant destination since 2004, is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Manager to join our team. This position includes travel to our Troy, Ballston Spa, and Schenectady locations, with regular contact with founders for support.

As Manager, you will assist owners and the kitchen manager in day-to-day operations, directly supervising front-of-house staff including tea tenders, greeters, bussers, and cashiers. You will maintain the highest quality Guest Experience through dedication to excellence in food, beverage, service standards, cleanliness, and safety.

Requirements

  • Minimum one (1) year of restaurant/hospitality experience managing or co-managing a restaurant/kitchen, including hiring, firing, scheduling, and paperwork
  • Must be available weekends (both Saturday and Sunday)
  • Organization, planning, and time management skills with the ability and initiative to react effectively and quickly to unexpected circumstances
  • Ability to read and understand POS screens, e-mail, spreadsheets, and basic office functions
  • Ability to build positive working relationships and provide clear direction and feedback
  • Ability to diplomatically deal with difficult situations and people while exhibiting a consistent level of professionalism
  • Handle stress associated with responding to and solving problems
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment, as well as a creative approach to formulating responses

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-going coaching and appropriate progressive discipline to all Team Members
  • Manage appropriate documentation and ensure each Team Member has clarity around their current level of performance
  • Supervise day-to-day operations to ensure all standards of Whistling Kettle quality and service are achieved during each shift
  • Provide orientation and training according to all Whistling Kettle training systems, standards, and manuals for new hires
  • Construct the weekly work schedule to meet the demands of the business
  • Supervise Team Members to ensure all cleaning, maintenance, housekeeping, and side work duties are accomplished in line with operations standards
  • Proactively communicate to owners and other management team members to share and convey information regarding the restaurant, ensuring no surprises
  • Maintain familiarity with all national, state, and local safety, health, and sanitation standards and ensure all Team Members follow guidelines appropriately
