
About this role
At SpartanNash, lead the day-to-day activities of department operations in a retail store. Ensure associates are trained, the department is fully staffed, operating at company standards, and meeting all goals and key performance indicators. Order and maintain inventory using control procedures to ensure product freshness and quality. Review and validate received orders for amount, quality, count, weight, and condition, storing products appropriately. Manage team tasks for stocking, production, accuracy, and date-sensitive rotation.
Handle spoiled or damaged products per guidelines and maintain familiarity with all department and store products. Know advertised items, special prices, coupon deals, and sales rewards programs. Assure weekly and period Flight Plan execution to company expectations.
Follow policies for scheduling using required tools and software per forecasts. Implement work schedules, labor control, overtime, and payroll expenses. Model Our Winning Recipe, core values, and competencies in a 17,000 strong Associates family.
Oversee department management including staffing, training, performance management, and career development. Develop and monitor department goals and forecasts. Participate in daily huddles, manager meetings, district, and company activities.
Requirements
- Ability to lead retail department operations and meet company goals and KPIs
- Proficiency in inventory control procedures for product freshness and quality
- Experience managing stocking, production, and rotation in food retail
- Knowledge of scheduling tools, labor control, and payroll management
- Familiarity with retail products, advertised items, and sales programs
- Skills in staffing, training, performance management, and associate development
- Competence in executing operational plans like Flight Plans and Winning Recipe
Responsibilities

- Assure weekly and period Flight Plan are communicated and executed to company expectations
- Implement and maintain work schedules, labor control, overtime control, and payroll expense for the department
- Develop and monitor department goals and forecasts
