About this role
At SpartanNash, lead the day-to-day activities of department operations in a retail store. Ensure associates are trained, the department is fully staffed, operating at company standards, and meeting all goals and key performance indicators. Contribute to the People First culture in a 20,000-strong family of Associates.
Order and maintain inventory using control procedures to ensure product freshness and quality. Review and validate received orders for amount, quality, count, weight, and condition, storing products appropriately. Manage team tasks for stocking, production, accuracy, and date-sensitive rotation, handling spoiled or damaged products per guidelines.
Implement work schedules, labor control, overtime, and payroll expenses for the department. Assure weekly and period Flight Plan is communicated and executed to expectations. Attend daily huddles, manager meetings, district, and other gatherings.
Model core values, implement Our Winning Recipe, and handle department management including staffing, training, performance management, and career development. Develop and monitor department goals and forecasts as required. Maintain familiarity with all products and store promotions like advertised items, special prices, and rewards programs.
Requirements
- Experience leading day-to-day department operations in a retail store environment
- Proficiency in inventory control procedures for product freshness and quality
- Ability to manage stocking, production, and rotation tasks in coffee retail
- Knowledge of retail products, promotions, advertised items, and rewards programs
- Skills in scheduling, labor control, overtime management, and payroll for department
- Familiarity with executing sales plans like weekly Flight Plans
- Competency in team training, performance management, and career development
- Understanding of handling spoiled or damaged products per guidelines
Responsibilities
- Order and maintain inventory in the department while utilizing inventory control procedures to ensure product freshness and quality
- Review and validate received orders for amount, quality, count or weight, condition, and ensure all product is stored in appropriate areas
- Manage a team that completes all stocking, production, and additional tasks to ensure product quality, production planning, accuracy, and date sensitive rotation
- Maintain familiarity with all products carried in the department as well as throughout the store
- Know the advertised items, special prices, coupon deals or other features that apply to the store's sales and rewards programs
- Assure that the weekly and period Flight Plan are communicated and executed to company expectations and timeline
- Follow company policies and timelines using required tools and software to manage scheduling according to forecasted guidelines
- Be responsible for department management including staffing, training, performance management, and career development of associates
